Cellulite is a condition defined by lumpy, loose hanging skin caused by body fat forming underneath it. Fat layers that lie between connective tissues and the skin tend to expand. Special creams are popular attempts to treat cellulite symptoms. These creams often contain L-carnitine and lotus flower extract. The L-carnitine is said to promote the conversion of body fat as this affects the expansion of fat in connective tissues. The extract of the lotus flower is also said to reduce fat and rid of waste fluids. However powerful these creams may be, their effects are very short term and negligible at best. This is especially the case when coupled with the lack of exercise and a healthy habit. The use of drugs and medication are also commonly practiced to treat cellulite. For instance, the injection of a solution containing a mix of aminophylline, extracts from herbs, vitamins, minerals, hormones, and enzymes into the skin is thought to reduce fat and strengthen the skin. This can, however, have the reverse of what was intended, as bump and contours can form in the skin (source).
Another attempt at cellulite treatment is laser therapy. This type of surgery is incredibly expensive. This process takes place in the fibrous bands under the skin, beginning with the machine heating the fat until it melts. The less fat, the less likely cellulite will develop in the skin. However, this form of cosmetic surgery will not only cost thousands but also only last for about two years. With liposuction, this type of surgery reshapes specific regions of the body by clearing out fat deposits in undesired locations. This is an attempt to redesign the body’s proportions for more desirable results. Once again, this will type of treatment is also very expensive. The results of these surgical treatments will diminish quicker by the lack of physical activity and a proper diet.
Diet & Exercise
While practical treatment of the symptoms of cellulite have yet to be proved as practical, prevention of cellulite, is however, possible. The best way to survive a condition is to never receive it to begin with. A healthy lifestyle and a diet are two very important factors in maintaining skin composure and regulating body fat. A diet that maximizes protein intake and limits sugar intake reduces the amount of fat formed in the body. The consumption of green vegetables and fruits gives the body anti-oxidants. Hydration of the body increases flow of nutrients. Both serve to flush out toxins stored in fat. Constant physical activity such as lifting weights or cardio exercises all help in burning fat. A toned muscle strengthens the skin around it. By not smoking tobacco products such as cigarettes and cigars, one may also decrease the chances of having cellulite. And last by not least, wearing loose fitting clothing as an alternative to tight fitting clothing allows for improved blood flow. As previously stated, this allows for the body to wash out any toxins with greater ease, toxins stored in fat under the skin.
